Traditional and Classic Longhair Siamese (Balinese) Breeders

Q: How do they differ from the so called "show" Longhair Siamese (Balinese)) of the other cat associations?

A: Unlike the Extreme Wedge Longhair Siamese (Balinese), the Traditional Longhair Siamese (Balinese) and Classic Longhair Siamese (Balinese) have semi-long hair ALL over their bodies, giving them the look of a nice fluffy cat. The coat lays down somewhat, is easy to brush, and resists matting. The Extreme Wedge Longhair Siamese (Balinese) has semi-long hair ONLY on its tail. The rest of its body is sleek and covered with short hair. Intensive inbreeding to extremism has caused the Extreme Wedge Longhair Siamese (Balinese) to loose the trademark feature of its breed, namely long hair! TCA, Inc. does not support the Extreme Wedge Longhair Siamese (Balinese).

Q: What about genetics? A: Expect the Traditional Longhair Siamese (Balinese) and Classic Longhair Siamese (Balinese) to naturally fall into the same physical structure and personality characteristics as the Traditional Siamese and Classic Siamese. That is because the two breeds are "kissing cousins" in a sort of way. Years ago a few breeders began seeing a few semi-long haired kittens in their litters. They thought they were a genetic "glitch", so they were sold as pets only. As more and more became evident, the "glitch" became a recognized breed.

Another story tells of the losses of breeding cats in Great Britain after the war. Bombing had destroyed so many catteries! To bring back certain breeds, owners used either the Person or the Turkish Angora to breed to their Siamese. Whether this is true or not, we do not know. In any case the "Longhair Siamese (Balinese)" became a separate breed that breeds true to its Breed Standard.

Q: What colors do they come in?

A: The four basic colors are, Seal Point, Chocolate Point, Blue Point, and Lilac Point, just like the "Siamese" breed described elsewhere in the TCA breed list.
