Q: What is a Traditional  Himalayan?

A: As with all of the other breeds, the other cat associations have bred the Himalayan into two separate and distinct types. The Traditional Himalayan is the first to be of this breed. It has a normal looking face, with a normal nose that is proportional to its head size. Their eyes set properly and normally in the facial sockets. Their eyes don't tear profusely and the whole long haired cat is an abundance of health.

The Extreme Himalayan is the so called "show" cat of the other cat associations. Like the Extreme Persian, it has a pushed in nose, like a pug dog. Bulbus eyes protrude outward from the eye sockets and shortened tear ducts drain and stain the face constantly. Sniffling is nearly constant.

THE TRADITIONAL CAT ASSOCIATION, INC. DOES NOT SUPPORT THE EXTREME HIMALAYAN!
Here is a dramatic presentation of the differences between the Traditional Breeds and the Exotic Persian/Himalayan Breeds we do not support.

Q: What is their genetic background?

A: The 'Himalayan" is a man made breed, created by cross breeding a "Siamese" with a "Persian". After several generations the desired goal of a long haired cat with points was attained. They do breed true to their Breed Standard now.

Q: What about their personality?

A: Being a laid back, calm and easy going, lap cat is the major feature of the Traditional Himalayan. They surely can enjoy playing, especially with toys.

Q: How easy are they to maintain?

A: Because they have a full, long coat, daily brushing is recommended. This prevents matting and lowers the possibility of hair balls. Your "Himalayan" will love the attention too.

Q:What colors are they?

A: A wide array of colors are available. They are: Seal Point, Chocolate Point, Blue Point, Lilac Point, Flame Point, Cream Point, Cinnamon Point, Fawn Point, Seal Tortie Point, Chocolate Tortie Point, Blue Tortie Point, Lilac Tortie Point, Red Tortie Point, Cream Tortie Point, Fawn Tortie Point, Cinnamon Tortie Point, Torbie Point (in all colors given), Blue Cream Point, Lilac Cream Point, Seal Lynx Point, Chocolate Lynx Point, Blue Lynx Point, Lilac Lynx Point, Red Lynx Point, Cream Lynx Point, Cinnamon Lynx Point, and Fawn Lynx Point.
